Geräte, die HDCP zum Schutz von Content verwenden, müssen compliant sein. Vor der Übertragung von z.B. Disc Player zu Fernseher wird über das Kabel (DVI/HDMI) die Lizenz geprüft. Dafür braucht es digitale Kanäle, die die jeweiligen Kabel zur Verfügung stellen.
