@drwho from the screenshots, that looks more like fvwm.

i3wm is a tiling wm, all windows are always as big as possible: 100%,2x 50%, 3x33% etc. If you're on Linux then sway is a wayland alternative to i3wm.

All of these are great WMs, fvwm is extremely configurable, so can be a time-sync
