Bobby Moss@ChrisWere @matt @canuckifiedoz in fairness MATE (i.e. Gnome 2) is probably more similar in layout to a Mac than Windows. So it could also be a bit of muscle memory from the old-timers.
I've found going back to MATE was a good move for me.
