As a techie I tended to dismiss 'media studies' and sociology as 'soft' and unrigorous, but since we live in 'interesting times' now reading Manufacturing Consent by Herman & Chomsky and Propaganda Blitz. More need than ever for the public to be aware of how the media works. Should be taught in schools.
