Although I see increasing numbers of people doing it, I haven't really read a post about the reasons behind setting up a Mastodon instance just for yourself.

So this post by @laura is particularly interesting/useful: https://laurakalbag.com/what-is-mastodon-and-why-should-i-use-it/

    1. What is Mastodon and why should I use it?
      from Laura Kalbag
Now you know why I’m moving away from Twitter, you probably have a vague idea of what I’m looking for in a social network. Mastodon is unique for a few reasons: it is federated, ethical, and inclusive.

@dajbelshaw @laura My reasoning parallels @laura . To me the logical endpoint of federation is individual instances, and it fits into what I call networked agency. Blogged about it at https://www.zylstra.org/blog/2018/10/running-mastodon-myself-an-experiment-pt-4/

As I didn’t succeed yet in getting Mastodon to run on a Raspberry Pi, nor in running a Gnu Social instance that actually federates on my hosting package, I’ve opted for an intermediate …

@dajbelshaw @laura following up on your post on 1-person instances, I blogged about disintegrating discourse and decentralistion https://www.zylstra.org/blog/2018/10/disintegration-of-discourse-and-decentralised-tools/

          from Interdependent Thoughts
We’re in a time where whatever is presented to us as discourse on Facebook, Twitter or any of the other platforms out there, may or may not come from humans, bots, or someone/a group with a s…
