    @Irick

    when you go on a moral argument and tell others what to do, you are trying to suppress their choice.

    if they don't do what you say, then you will encourage people to pester them until they comply.

    it's a form of coercive mind control, that outside of mastodon and other FOSS projects, is used by some of the most fucked up groups: scientology, mormons, various smaller cults, etc.

    have you even considered of how what you are *actually* doing will be perceived?

    it's psychopathic.

      this type of behaviour hits way too home for me.

      this type of behaviour is why i do not speak with almost none of my relatives, and is why i have basically become the defacto patriarch amongst the younger people in my family who also decided to say no to that type of shit.

      you may legitimately think that you are just trying to do good, with your social comments, but in reality all you do is drive people away from your message.

        i truly do believe you are a *good person*.

        and, most importantly, i believe *you* can do *better* than that.

        if i didn't believe you couldn't do better, i would just block you and call it a day.

        but you cannot fix federation politics by pressuring others through coercive social commentary.

        all you will do is cause your friends to leave you, because they will not want to become the next target of this coercion.

          at any rate, i implore you to *please* think about what i say here and not blow it off as me "blowing off steam."

            this type of social comment, which is coercive in nature, is exactly the same type of commentary that keeps people from being themselves, from coming out as LGBT, from coming out as anything really.

            because they are afraid of the exposure, they are afraid of being the talk of the town, they are afraid of the iricks of the world shaking their handbells and saying "shame!"

            when you suppress choice, you create this culture of fear.
