   I don't know what happened with #Twitter trending #hashtags, but their way of listing what is trending is of limited utility anyway. If it becomes "important", groups will conspire to post and repeat posts using the same tag in a short time period and sites may filter / censor which tags make the list.

      I can see where some combination of local site posts, local site faves, and posts by those on the user's subscribed list would be useful (assuming the local site isn't a megasite like Pixiv or MastoSoc), but the more that trending tags gathers from an approximation of the entirety of the #Fediverse, the less value it brings to real users.
