   Want your kid to be a surgeon? First, talk to them about your hopes and dreams and listen to them talk about their own.

   But, then, if everyone is on board with "surgeon" being at least a future possibility, have them take up hobbies that involve working with their hands, because apparently many current students lack the manual dexterity necessary to actually be good surgeons.
