Randomly talked to an art shop owner (employee?) about the failure of neoliberalism, then ended up in a radical bookstore (alas, I don't read Portuguese & they had no English titles). Apparently Portugal is ripe for socialism (though this guy, interestingly, didn't like communism because he felt communists were opposed to unions – so he's probably more communist than the Soviets he's criticizing); understandable, given that the middle class here has all but disappeared, from what locals say.
