TIL that in 1908 Amalie Auguste Melitta Bentz invented the coffee filter

Frustrated by the methods that were available in 1908 „she experimented with many means but ended up using blotting paper from her son Willi's school exercise book and a brass pot punctured using a nail“

Together with here husband and her sons she then build a successful company (Melitta) which is still operating, employs more than 3000 people and is now managed by her grandchildren
