DistroJunkie@porus Well, your friend is simply wrong. I'm using an android phone with no gapps or services on it since my Ubuntu phone stopped working due to faulty hardware. I know many who do the same. It's possible and there are other apps that get the job done. The one thing I will concede is that gapps and services work well and really do a good job. They're just not really free and I choose not to pay that price.
