    I have not seen a union actually improve conditions for people in my lifetime.  I've heard of the halcyon days of the first labour movements, but that's before my time, and the unions we have nowadays are just greed.  They often actually make working environments worse

      In most trades with apprenticeships in Canada, an apprentice makes under half the minimum legal wage once union dues are deducted.  The Harper government tabled a bill that would make it so that you cannot make under the legal minimum wage after such deductions, but it was presented by the press as "union busting" and got shot down.
