An oft-overlooked perk of full-disk encryption is that, when someday you dispose of a broken hard drive, it's OK to not worry about having your data nicked. Maybe this means the drive makes it to a recycling centre intact and gets recycled fully?
Or, when selling a laptop, you can save time by only shredding the first little portion containing the keys, permanently consigning the rest to cryptographic oblivion.
