2019 will be the year I finally read (and actually finish) Ulysses.

@ink_slinger The Odyssey is a better story. Among the works of Joyce, I preferred both *A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man* and *Dubliners* to *Ulysses*.
@mpjgregoire To be honest, it feels like one of those books that I "should" read. I attempt it every so often more out of a weird sense of obligation than a strong desire to read it. This is probably why I rarely get more than 50 pages in before giving up.
@ink_slinger I'm not sure what you'll get out of a book that you read neither for pleasure nor for a practical end — bragging rights maybe, but are those worth it?
I suggest that you consider whether your hours could be spent more productively otherwise; or perhaps read more accessible Joyce and then decide whether you want to make a commitment to *Ulysses*.
@mpjgregoire You're absolutely right, which is why I will almost certainly not read it, despite this weird masochistic desire to do so. I read "Portrait" years ago, in university, but don't remember much (I probably only skimmed it, if I'm being honest). I remember liking it, but it was...I don't even know. 13 or 14 years ago?
