In the last couple of days the snafus have been in abundance.

The server recently died due to running out of disk space. It turned out that there was some kind of possibly recursive Syncthing error going on.

For now I've removed all the #freedombone downloads to free up space.

Also, probably as a consequence, pleroma was killing the CPU. The CPU usage was normally about 8-10%, but was going above 300% constantly.

After stopping the syncthing daemon and removing the tens of gigabytes of files that it had recursively created restarting pleroma fixed the CPU problem.

So the upshot is that if I'm going to continue using syncthing then there needs to be a hard limit on the amount of drive space it can use.
