Is "Otherkin" a more inclusive/accepted version of "Therian" or is there more to it?

I've been identifying as therian for a while and I see a lot more people using otherkin to describe what seems like similar feelings/beliefs to mine. I've even seen some refusing to identify as therian because it's "tarnished" or something. If otherkin is basically a better term, I'll start using it instead.
