how to successfully fork mastodon, a guide by me:

1. go to tootssuite issue tracker / PRs and look for PRs that are pretty much done but won't be merged because a certain dev doesn't want them
2. click fork button
3. merge those PRs into your fork
4. you now have a fork that has more features than mainline. this will attract people and you can start with doing a proper project.
5. ???
