The content of the landing page is completely under the control of the site admin from the site settings page. You can direct it to an existing page (such as the public stream or apps collection), to a custom webpage such as a company webpage built using the hubzilla CMS, or an included html file; or even directed offsite to something else. It's pretty flexible.
