neil 🍄@maloki I think 'fediverse' itself is not that accessible. If you don't know or care about federation, it's an odd name. I have had people react in bemusement to 'fed', as a prefix or suffix. I suggested pixelfed as an instagram alternative, and their first word association to it was the feds, the FBI - no joke.
That said, I think it's familiarity. Tweet is a ridiculous term, but you hear it on the news in relation to geopolitics now, and nobody bats an eyelid.
