It is something which deeply unsettles and depresses me sometimes to see how easily people lash out and tear down things, rather than building better things.  I do it.  You do it.  We all do it.  But that momentary catharsis may feel nice, it isn't making anything better.  You aren't building a better future by demeaning and degrading others.  You aren't going to make the world a better place by eliminating your respective outgroups.  Empathy's where it's at.  Care and understanding. And we just piss it all away.

Sure, empathy's great and all, but it's not the answer to everything. For example, there are people who will actively soak up all the good feelings and loving cuddles offered to them and then explode like claymore mines when the constant affirmation supply lets up at all.

Or, to put it another way: some damaged people spoil it for everyone else, and they need less affirmation and more doses of cold reality until they learn to cope.
