@Alonealastalovedalongthe yeah, it's bizarre. like, to be fair, the thing you're describing is kind of a norm across a _lot_ of different things online, maybe even most, but something about reddit's design has always been like a finely tuned machine for stoking flamewars.
i spent _years_ on there, and i don't totally regret it because i did learn a lot and hone some of my thinking, but mostly i was just being a giant asshole to people on the internet for an hour or two a day.
