  1. Server Status - NAS (serverstatus@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Feb-2019 16:55:35 EST Server Status - NAS Server Status - NAS

Out of an abundance of caution, I am going to bring NAS offline until there is an upstream Linux kernel fix available for CVE-2019-8912.

Note that NAS may be offline for a few days as a result.

Take this time to be with your friends and family OTG-style.

@ServerStatus I didn't know about this server status account. From my perspective, NAS, my main instance, vanished without a trace for days. I only came across this post some time later because someone on here that I follow from another instance shared it before it went down. This isn't the sort of thing I expect from a busy Mastodon instance with several thousand users. Had everyone else shut down their instances, it would've been understandable.

@ServerStatus It's not that anyone owes me anything. The instance is free, yet costs money and time to run, and that's a good thing. However, it does bother me that you really can't rely on any one instance, yet one instance disappearing is all it takes to lose all your posts, follows and followers. You can't really own an identity on the network that you control fully, not even if you make regular backups.
