"Try and clean up your social environment first. If there are people who are negative or horrible to you, or don't believe in you, or ignore you, or ignore anything deep or valuable about you. Then try and fix those relationships, and if you can't fix those those relationships then you have a choice. You can choose to be depressed as the result of being around negative people, or socially anxious because you are around dangerous, hostile or indifferent people. And you can accept the negative emotional experience in return for the pretense of a relationship or you can say I'm striking out across the desert to find better companions."
