I am currently self-host https://diasporapod.no , but I also rent a VPS for my personal things (my website at https://stigatle.no ), I'm considering moving the content on the VPS (website and such) + the diaspora pod to a combined server on amazon aws. I have not decided yet, but I'm considering it.
The reason for doing that is to lower maintenance and also the cost would be almost the same as what I have now, but I then free up one of my personal servers by moving that one over to amazon aws.
Also keeping everything backed up \ maintained is faster then now. I'll think about it for a little while longer until I decide. If I do decide to move it, then I'll make sure to get everything in place before switching over. Keeping any downtime to a minimum (basically it'll just be down while importing the database from my current server).
