    What is your opinion about #Openbook?

    Seems like a #Facebook alternative, but it is:

    * centralized - they say they want to decentralize in the future and talk about #Solid from Tim Berners Lee (that's far from ready), but not #Activitypub.
    * not clear which parts are open-source.

    They claim to respect privacy, but I see no way how to check that.

    I'm also wondering how they are going to be financed in the future. I see crowd-funding now, but they are specifically not non-profit, cause they want to keep the option open to raise money for future growth. In other words; they are looking for venture capital.

      @jeroenpraat On paper, it seems fine -- good, even, despite being centralized. But a privacy-respecting network and venture capital don't really mesh, unless they're going to charge a subscription fee.

      They say 100% of their code is open sources. But does that include the encryption protocol? 100% should mean everything...
