What a quaint phrase: "writing letters".

I've been reading my great, great grandmother's journal. She was such a funny lady.

Of course, what else would one do but use letters transcribed as words from what I say to my dija. The thing I can't understand is why they thought the individual letters were so important for communication instead of words or sentences.

Sometimes I despair trying to understand things from the past.
