    I like how we just used to use "sticks"/cylinders with evenly spaced numbers on the sides as dice. You'll see references in early history to "throwing the sticks" and that's what it means.
    It's a pretty damn convenient idea that you could do yourself if you have a dowel rod handy, and it lets you easily create "impossible dice" like the d7, d3, etc.
    (There are some solid arguments for actual dice-shaped versions of these sortsa things these days, and you'd be surprised how good they look, but this just illustrates how rad sticks are - they solve such a complicated geometric problem via bruteforcing.)
