I will probably try it out soon. #Monal, my current client, appears to only operate when in the foreground. (Likewise for the #Mutter #IRC client, so that may be an #Apple restriction.) -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 30-Mar-2019 21:38:05 EDT Annah @lnxw48a1 This will be the case for any iOS application not released by Apple; any third party application not granted a specific exception by Apple cannot run network operations in the background. A few use push notifications to get around this, but this has obvious privacy implications. -
Tigase (tigase@mastodon.technology)'s status on Monday, 01-Apr-2019 14:05:38 EDT Tigase @lnxw48a1 This is restriction from #apple - if you wan't to receive messages when in background then you have to use #push notifications - fortunatelly #siskinim supports it (requires server support as well, https://tigase.im is one of the servers that supports it)
