TIL it's better to spread the DIMMs across banks instead of filling the first 8 slots. That way I'd be using all 4 Memory Buffer (Centaur) chips, meaning it would utilise the entire L4 cache.

Good thing I bought 8 DIMMs as I believe the server uses the RAM in pairs; had I have bought less than 8 I would have fucked up pretty bad.
