The "market" (directors and lots of other people) adapts to the consumers, if the majorities of consumers are ignorant about the usage of their computers then they'll get abused at some point. But if the majority of people do know how to use and configure their products then the sellers will have to adapt to the demands of these users.
You can easily see that in computers sold for the average users, be it hardware or software. The software quality and design continues to evolves in a non positive way.
