Don Romano (alt)ADAT Lightpipe would seem to be a useful interface for doing a bit of experimentation with MEMS microphones. Getting the signals into a DAW seems to offer the simplest way of experimenting with these microphones. There is a DAW named REAPER where you can write your own DSP algorithms in a built-in scripting language without needing to implement a full VST/AU plugin.
