I think historians should really lean into the whole “if you take down the statues we’ll forget all the history” thing
TV person: “How do you feel about the removal of the monument?”
Historian: “what monument?”
TVP: “...the one commemorating the Confederacy...”
Historian: “Con...fed...eracy? Never heard of it”
TVP: “IT WAS A GIANT STATUE STANDING RIGHT THERE COMMEMORATING THE LOSING SIDE IN THE CIVIL WAR”
Historian: “that doesn’t sound right, why would you put up a statue to the losing side? Besides, you’d think I’d remember a thing like that, I’m an historian”
