GS's active development resumed past summer. For now it is just receiving some small updates and maintaining but we will be working on exciting upgrades during the summer :)

      current codebase: https://notabug.org/diogo/gnu-social

Part of the roadmaps for version two:
      https://www.diogo.site/projects/GNU-social/soc/2019/proposals/network.pdf
      https://www.diogo.site/projects/GNU-social/soc/2019/proposals/load.pdf

Some of the goals in a vague way: https://www.diogo.site/projects/GNU-social/soc/2019/

LoadAverage, Colegota and some other instances are already using the latest version. This is not just a fork of GS, we will be merging it all by the end of summer on git.gnu.io.

@thatbrickster  I wonder if they would look into why GS has become so slow... it is one of its main drawbacks right now.

@sim An upgrade to PHP7+ would be great along with a better database backend. There was a lot of faffing about trying to make it run on PHP 5.5 with whatever scheduler to cut some of its inefficiencies.

@thatbrickster Makes sense... I guess we'll see what happens.
