   Either the how to use NMap articles I'm reading are wrong or outdated, or every port on my pc is closed.

      @cosullivan I use nmap frequently but don't really know it well. I use the same two things over and over.
      nmap -sP x.x.x.x/x
      nmap -sS x.x.x.x
      I use them to find the IP of devices and find out what services they offer.
