In fact, it puts you behind in a lot of ways.
It's 169 years old. It's older than the US civil war. It predates the Great Depression by 71 years. Capitalism has changed considerably since Marx's time, namely, the fundamental problems.
Much like Freud (btw the Manifesto is older than Freud), it's an old tome that should be considered historically important but not definitive anymore.
