I'm coming to the gradual realisation that I hate my email inbox.

It's dominated by messages sent to me by machines, mostly to notify me of various paperwork I must do.

On the rare occasion that I communicate with real people over email on my personal time, they're typically employees of companies I need to interact with, not friends or relatives.

Email does not fill me with joy, and much like the snail mail that came before it, I mostly want it to go away.

I actually have a far better relationship to my email inbox at work.

The vast majority of the messages I receive there are triggered by humans wanting to interact with me. Granted, they often mean that I have to do actual work, and that's a drag, but then again, I am at work and that's kind of the idea.

There is also a good number of messages that just thank me for doing a good job. I never get emails like that in my personal email inbox.
