Australia has instant runoff voting, which I've always felt is a better system:

I mean, what actually end up happening in real life is probably similar to what you see in the music hit lists:

People have wildly differing opinions about what the "best" music is, so what actually ends up topping the lists is the generic stuff everyone listens to a little bit, not the stuff everybody loves (no such music exists).

I expect that's what happens in Australian elections.
