    Why can't we go back to 80's design rules for electronics?

    I'd love to build something functional with this look. This is the control panel of the Aliens movie (first one) ship.

      @deadcode That does look cool, but to be fair, real '80s design aesthetic in electronics and computers was often (not always!) decidedly less cool.

      Tactile buttons, lights, and levers take up a lot of space. They also require more instruction to the user on what to push in any given situation. "Soft" keys can easily be changed, added, or removed based on each scenario, which makes devices much more intuitive.

      Maybe designers will bring this same sci-fi aesthetic, with soft keys.
