Ted Gould@nolan as someone who's been involved in the consumer side of OSS for a while, I'd say that really, people don't care.
But that's okay, they don't need to. The reality is that today the builders of their tools realize that OSS is the best way to build good tools. It has become a best practice.
The best builders will want to work with OSS workflows and the best builders will build the best tools. The best tools will then be underpinned by OSS.
