one of my favorite aspects of the mega drive's YM2612 was how it "trailed off" at the end of songs, with tones kind of decaying organically instead of instantly stopping. this somehow makes its FM synth feel like more of an organic instrument than just a digital device

this was very noticeable at the end of phantasy star II's intro for example. can't find a good version on YT to demonstrate.
