Rationally Speaking #233 - Clive Thompson on "The culture of coding, and how itβs changing the world" does not bring up much of anything new, but it's a good conversation with all the bits and pieces in one place, and I'm going to look for more podcasts where he's interviewed.

It's nice to hear someone who clearly gets the mindset and who tinkered with his C64 back in the day analyze the hacker mindset and what it means when SV is running the world.
Both Thompson and Galef are far too generous toward Uber, neglecting to mention that beyond just "optimizing" it optimizes away regulation and wages, and they could have gone deeper into the "10x coder" idea.-

@clacke Oh, interesting. I also follow this podcast. This episode is number 12 in the playlist on my Sansa Clip+. Probably get to it tomorrow.

I think this is deeper and talks more about societal impact, and it's less about two polymath nerds geeking out together. That probably why it feels longer, but actually the Rationally Speaking episode is one hour and so is this.
Talks a little bit about the value of "1x coders", but doesn't really go into whether "10x" is actually a thing, and if it is, what that means.
Talks a lot about how the profession has changed over the years, from pink collar to boys' club, the awakening social conscience in the programming culture, and what the Minecraft generation might have in common with the C64 generation.
