Fifty years ago, our comrades fought back, with bricks and bottles and no idea of how far the fire would spread beyond Stonewall.
Society wants us to conform to their system. When we rebel, they want us to go away, to fail, to die. They think that the murder of eleven black trans women so far this year (in the US alone) will scare us back into line.
We celebrate the life we have now, because it is our chance to shine, because it is our chance to make a better future.
We celebrate the life we have now, because we know that any of us could be gone tomorrow.
