It was the fashion, back then, to make new brand names by adding words onto other completely different names
and here I am 20 years later searching a Windows registry for 'shockwave' and getting a million unrelated hits
Also a million remembered support desk calls:
"But I have Java. I ticked the box saying JavaScript enabled"
"I understand your confusion, but you have Java SCRIPT. Completely different product from Java. Absolutely no connection b tween the two at all."
"But that doesn't make any sense! Why would two unrelated products have the same name??"
Because Web and because Sun and because Netscape and because moving fast and breaking things before that was even a meme.
