@augustus This was reasonably true before the press, and we've never known a free press inasmuch as the press has never been meaningfully free in the sense that they're beholden to other interests.
You're certainly right in the press in general making themselves relevant by creating useful problems if there aren't any laying around to increase their audience and cultural relevance.
Like so much else, the press is another of life's IQ tests: believe it / trust it? you fail.
