It was pretty good! Longer than it needed to be to tell its story but it did use the length to build a solid case for sympathy & understanding of something deeply affecting the country at the time. Surprisingly progressive about cultural institutions in a couple of ways, surprising very backwards in some other ways.
We watched it over two evenings, each half with an intermission. It is LONG.

For cocktails we started with a classic gin & tonic, but with an extra bitter tonic syrup + soda, a decent amount of fresh strained lime juice, just a pinch of salt to cut the lime bitterness, and a gorgeous indigo coloured Empress 1908 butterfly pea flower gin.
I also put together a simple Dark & Stormy with Pickett's spicy ginger beer syrup & lime juice with a wedge for Tammy. I love that variation. She did too, I think.

At intermission we switched over to the Improved Japanese Cocktail (ecch, dislike the name), our first cocktail to use orgeat. Delicious! Simple! It was a big hit. 2oz brandy, 1oz lemon juice, 1oz orgeat, three dashes Peychaud's bitters (I forgot mine at home! We subbed in Angostura); shake hard with ice until the shaker frosts, double-strain into a coupe, garnish froth with a dot of bitters & a twist of lemon or orange.
