I'm not buying this idea among the left that racism is somehow caused by capitalism. Sure, the capitalist does benefit from disunity among the workers and therefore their reduced bargaining power. Capitalism benefits from racism, but to say that it causes it, is going too far. I believe that racism has a life of its own, and it stems from humans feeling threatened by those unlike them. In the world as it is now, I can hardly imagine a white workers' movement being inclusive or considerate about us black and brown folk.

Curiously in Germany the greens are predominantly elected by well-off non-immigrated academics, but they are most open to immigrated people.
