The Silky Aster is a lovely dry-prairie plant that blooms late in the season, adding a beautiful lilac color to the browning tallgrass at the end of the summer, into fall. It spreads and branches into a messy cloud of incredibly soft, furry (silky!) leaves, topped by fairly large light-purple flowers. It's pollinated by long-tongued bees and in the winter, sparrows eat the seeds. Silky aster is a really good choice for a rock garden or dry-prairie garden!
