Ricardus@djsundog That Mangione album was a gigantic pop crossover hit for what is essentially a (light) jazz album. It was everywhere in 1978. We got it through the Columbia record club. Played the shit out of it.
Geissman doesn't go too far outside at all, harmonically, in that solo. It's almost like a rock solo, but a killer rock solo in the pop jazz tune. It caught my ear immediately and made me want to take lessons.
