I upgraded an old laptop to #Debian #Buster over the weekend. When it boots, it connects to the Internet through the #ethernet, as it should. But when the laptop goes to sleep, it loses the network connection, and then #NetworkManager is unable to reconnect.

    Suggestions?

My next plan is to stop using NetworkManager for the ethernet, returning to the /etc/network/interfaces approach, like in the old days.

I switched to /etc/network/interfaces but that was no better. It appears that the router to which the laptop is cabled does not offer new DHCP leases after the laptop suspends. The solution is probably to disable suspending while the laptop is plugged in.

        Manana...

@mpjgregoire maybe check the journal to see if anything is having trouble waking?

i remember i had an old laptop that I had to add a systemd service to take down the nic before sleep and bring it back up after sleep. IIRC you hook into `Before=systemd-suspend.service`
