The signature foods of various places I've travelled are available, at a higher level of quality, in my home town.
Belgian waffles? My wife makes 'em better, as does the (possibly defunct) local waffle cart.
Portugese custard tarts? My favourite local Portugese bakery makes them better than any I had in Portugal.
Currywurst? To be fair, it's street food and I only had one in Germany, but a local sausage and beer place makes it better than the one I had in Frankfurt.
